After a long day of stress, noise, and chaos, it’s critical to find a way to unwind and center yourself. Perhaps you go the happy hour route and knock back a beer or three. Maybe you choose to find physical and spiritual balance through yoga.
…But why not combine the two? Marrying the two best emotional therapies into one glorious de-stressing activity is a surefire way to reach a higher level of consciousness. Probably.
Your new favorite post-work activity is here: BierYoga, also known as BeerYoga.
Berlin-based visionary and yogi Jhula coined the term ‘BierYoga’ and has turned it into a successful business, although she first observed the practice in the United States at Burning Man (surprise, surprise).
«Both are centuries-old therapies for mind, body and soul. Over one hour, we take a yoga class and incorporate beer into each pose.»
Don’t be fooled, though. BeerYoga is a serious practice.
«BeerYoga is fun but it’s no joke,» Jhula explained. «We take the philosophies of yoga and pair it with the pleasure of beer-drinking to reach your highest level of consciousness.»
However, yoga beginners are encouraged to attend (you might need to be a little more advanced in your drinking).
«No yoga experience necessary, just an open mind and a love for beer.»
Participants can expect to learn poses like «beer salutations,» which involve balancing beer bottles on their heads.
So, where can we get started with BeerYoga?
BeerYoga has made its way to Australia, where classes will be offered in Sydney and Melbourne for the month of January.
As for U.S. beer enthusiasts and yogis, you may have to settle for informal beer yoga at music festivals for now.
