After going through a painful breakup Lindsay Istace tried different yoga practises but none of them helped her to find her inner peace. Being a very active and creative woman, Istace decided to practice it in her own way. She noticed that swearing and doing traditional yoga moves to rock music allows her to let off steam. So, this is how Rage Yoga appeared.
Later one of her Facebook followers suggested she should offer it as a class. A one-off workshop turned out to be a success, the classes are regularly held twice a week at a pub in Calgary, Alberta. On average, five to 15 people attend each session.
The founder of Rage Youga believes she helps people to sooth themselves:
“One of my favorite parts is when we get everyone to inhale up nice and tall, and then flop forward while screaming whatever they want. It’s super therapeutic, allowing people to let out whatever might be bothering them and generally laughing about it afterwards.”
Once the class draws to a close, instead of ending with “Namaste,” the class expels a communal “fuck yeah.”
